Swapan Chowdhury

Present Position

Runs a private Art School at Dhaka
Member of Dhaka Art Circle
Regular Tagore song artist of Bangladesh Television.

Born in 1948 at Chittagong, Bangladesh

Education

1970 : Graduated in Fine Arts from Bangladesh College of Arts and Crafts, Dhaka (at present Institute of Fine Arts, Dhaka University).
1964-70 : Studied music at Chayanat Sangeet Biddayatan, Dhaka

The Time of the War of Liberation

Joined the War of Liberation in 1971. Participated in Art Exhibitions in India and abroad to uphold the War of Liberation on behalf of the Artist's of Bangladesh. As a member of the Bangladesh Liberation Movement Artists' Association sang patriotic songs in the refugee camps and in the camps of the freedom fighters. Joined Shadin Bangla Betar. Took part in entertaining orphan children of Bangladesh through music and painting at the orphanage named 'Khelaghar' established by Srimati Maitreye Devi of India. Worked for Bangladeshi paper The People and Joy Bangla Patrika as artist and cartoonist. Some of his works were used for cover design of Desh, fortnightly journal Campus and other papers in Calcutta during the War of Liberation.
